Will Americans Shine at the 2025 US Open?
There is great support for the red, white, and blue players in the final major of the season. Call it a home court of sorts. Since Williams’ last US Open championship in 2015, the only American players to capture the crown are Sloane Stephens (2015) and Gauff (2023). Stephens is no longer playing consistently because she has played so inconsistently. Coco Gauff, meanwhile, is listed at +450 on US Open women’s odds to win the tournament.
Jessica Pegula wins a lot of matches every year. She takes some of the lesser tournaments, too. However, the daughter of the owner of the Buffalo Bills has yet to show the game to win a major. Could she defy tennis odds and win this event? Sure. Most experts would likely tell you there is a greater likelihood of the AFC East team capturing its first Super Bowl than Pegula winning her first major. That’s not being mean, it is just clear from the +2200 odds she has been tabbed at by BetUS Sportsbook in the women’s US Open tennis outrights.
A tempting play at +1600 could be American Madison Keys. She won the Australian Open this year and has the game to thrive on hardcourts. Keys would be looking to accomplish in 2025 what Sabalenka did last year, which is to win the first and last Grand Slam events in a calendar year.
Live US Open Long Shots
Naomi Osaka of Japan has won a pair of US Open championships. The last time was in 2018. What is noteworthy is that none of the other Grand Slam winners from that year are mentioned on the BetUS outrights for this US Open. Osaka is +2200 in odds to win the US Open women’s tennis, and it would be a surprise, not a shock, if she found her way into the second week.
The outrights have a teen at +700. Mirra Andreeva will likely win a championship or multiple titles in her career. She has that kind of potential. However, is a player who turned 18 in April ready to handle the exhausting run it takes to win this tournament? New York is hot and humid, and saps the strength of veterans, let alone someone who is in their late teens. It feels like the WTA odds are too low on her at this point in her career.
Elena Rybakina won Wimbledon in 2022. Again, to note that it is on grass and the US Open is not. Her best performance in New York was in the third round in 2021 and 2023. She would have to take, um, a major step up to win the tournament here in 2025. Her odds on the outrights are +1200. It might be worth waiting to see if those bump up as the tourney gets closer.
